Ebola Update

As you’ve probably read in the news, the Ebola situation in Liberia has overwhelmed local capacity to control it. At first (a few weeks ago) the situation was not well understood, with many of our on-the-ground partners believing that the situation was not as bad as the news presented.

However, in the last two weeks, the situation has degraded rapidly. Schools and offices are closing, hospitals are turning away suspected cases and the dead are being left abandoned in the streets.

The country has called the situation a national emergency and has started quarantining areas. In addition, several airlines have refused to land in Monrovia and neighbouring countries have closed their borders. The World Bank suggests the situation might take a few months to stabilize.

So far our team has thankfully not been directly affected (although everyone is affected by job losses and rising prices). Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected in West Africa.
